The Top Reasons to Call Park City Home While Working in Salt Lake City

Imagine waking up to the pristine Wasatch Mountains as your backyard, world-class skiing just minutes away, and the vibrant culture of Salt Lake City within a convenient commute. This is the reality for many who choose to live in Park City while working in Salt Lake City. In this blog post, we'll delve into the top reasons why making the move to Park City is a brilliant decision for those seeking a unique work-life balance. From natural beauty to outdoor recreation, a thriving community, and practical benefits like easy access to the slopes, pleasant weather, and reduced traffic, Park City offers an exceptional lifestyle that perfectly complements the urban opportunities of its neighboring city.

1. Scenic Beauty and Outdoor Paradise:

Park City boasts breathtaking natural beauty year-round. The pristine mountains, lush forests, and serene lakes create a picturesque backdrop for everyday life. Residents can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in nature's wonders with endless opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and more, all just steps from their front doors. It's rare to find wide open spaces in downtown Salt Lake City, or even areas remotely close to the Wastach Mountains.

2. Short Commute to Salt Lake City:

One of the most significant advantages of living in Park City while working in Salt Lake City is the convenient commute. The short drive of approximately 30-40 minutes along scenic highways allows you to enjoy the tranquility of mountain living while keeping your professional opportunities in the city within reach. If you live in Kimball Junction, Jeremy Ranch, Pinebrook, Summit Park or even Glenwild you're less than a 20 minute commute to get over the mountain.

3. Access to World-Class Skiing:

Park City is renowned for its world-class ski resorts, including Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort. Living here means you're just minutes away from some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world, making it a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. And let's be real, you will likely have the occasional work from home day, leaving you the chance to pop out of your home office and catch a few runs during lunch or the first chair and make some fresh tracks on a powder day. Pick a neighborhood like Canyons, Old Town, or Lower Deer Valley for the easiest access to the slopes.

4. Ideal Summer Weather:

You may have heard of a little thing called the "inversion" which basically seals in the hot air in Salt Lake City. It leaves summers hot and the air quality that'll make you want to stay indoors. During the summer months, Park City offers a refreshing escape from the scorching heat of Salt Lake City. The higher elevation brings cooler temperatures, making outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and golfing even more enjoyable.

5. Reduced Traffic:

Compared to the hustle and bustle of Salt Lake City, Park City offers a respite from heavy traffic. You'll spend less time stuck in congestion, allowing for a more relaxed and stress-free daily commute. Even on busy ski days you can hop on the freeway from Kimball Junction, Bear Hollow, Jeremy Ranch, Pinebrook and Summit Park and do the coveted reverse commute. And one of my favorites is when I'm coming home from the airport and the traffic thins out a lot as you approach the pass. Leave the traffic for the City!

6. A Thriving Arts and Culture Scene:

While Park City may be known for its natural beauty, it also offers a vibrant arts and culture scene. With its annual Sundance Film Festival, art galleries, theaters, and music festivals, there's always something exciting happening in town. You can have the best of both worlds - city entertainment and mountain serenity. With the Park City Institute, concerts at Deer Valley, the Egyptian Theater and loads of places to hear live music, there's no lack of arts and entertainment in Park City.

7. Exceptional Educational Opportunities:

Families will find top-rated schools in Park City, making it an ideal place to raise children. The Park City School District is renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and offers a wide range of extracurricular activities for students. In fact, while most school districts pay their teachers mere pennies, Park City School District teachers just got a raise! More money in town means more money for the schools!

8. A Tight-Knit Community:

Despite its international recognition, Park City maintains a close-knit community feel. Residents often come together for events, fundraisers, and community initiatives. Neighbors know each other, and you'll quickly feel like part of a welcoming and supportive community. I know they call it "Small Lake City," and Park City is no different. Only in Park City your community may be made of moms who play pickleball or singles who love to hike, or the popular apres ski crew that brings people in from all over Park City!

9. World-Class Dining and Shopping:

Park City offers a diverse culinary scene with restaurants serving international cuisines and local delights. The city's charming Main Street is home to boutique shops, art galleries, and unique stores, making shopping a delightful experience. The shopping outside of Main Street may not be world class, but imagine never having to worry about finding a parking spot at Walmart, driving right into Whole Foods, easy access to the outlet mall, all without giant parking structures and paid parking (other than on Main Street).

10. Investment Opportunities:

Park City's real estate market has been on the rise due to its appeal to both residents and vacationers. Investing in a Park City property can be a smart financial decision, with the potential for appreciation and rental income. Also, your Park City home could be used as an investment property and provide you with income, especially if you travel a lot or some day decide that you want to move (but why?!)

Living in Park City while working in Salt Lake City is a lifestyle choice that offers the best of both worlds. With its stunning natural surroundings, short commute, vibrant cultural scene, excellent schools, and close-knit community, Park City provides a unique blend of urban opportunities and mountain tranquility. Add to that easy access to world-class skiing, cooler summer weather, and less traffic than in SLC, and it becomes clear why Park City is a dream destination for those seeking a balanced and fulfilling life.
